Guild Esports and Fnatic made their way to the upper bracket finals after their flawless victories against FunPlus Phoenix and M3 Champions. The European powerhouses will meet in the next round to qualify for the grand finals, which is scheduled to begin on June 26. With these results, Fnatic and Guild secured their spot at Stage 2 Masters, which will take place in Copenhagen next month.
The lower bracket quarterfinal match-ups were also set between Acend – FPX, and M3 Champions – Team Liquid. We will see the same four teams who competed in the upper bracket quarters will meet again in the loser’s bracket. However, this time they will have to win to keep their Stage 2 Masters hopes alive.
Guild vs M3 Champions
Yesterday’s action-packed semifinal match-ups started with Guild Esports taking the hammer down on M3 Champions on Breeze. Every time the former Masters champion attempted to return to the match, Sayf nullified their efforts with his shattering performance throughout the map. Guild had the mental advantage by winning on M3’s main map without facing resistance. The game went to the Fracture map picked by Guild. This time another individual performance brought the map to them. Even though M3 Champions looked better than they were in the opening match, ”trexx” led his team to victory when they were likely to lose.
Fnatic Vanquish FunPlus Phoenix
Fnatic, on the other hand, sent FunPlus Phoenix to the lower bracket with an Icebox and Fracture win led by Enzo. The French player closed the series with an impressive +17 KDA score alongside 56 total kills. On the FPX side, ”ardiis” was the only player who finished the series with a positive KDA score, but it meant nothing. Their Ascent performance can be applauded even though the rest of the team could not support ”ardiis” on Icebox and Fracture. With this result, Fnatic matched Guild Esports in the upper bracket finals, which will take place on June 24.
Acend will go up against FunPlus Phoenix in the opening lower bracket series. The two EU teams have faced each other four times before, with Acend winning three of them. FPX proved against Fnatic that they are not a cakewalk. It looks as though a jaw-dropping series to survive in hell will be waiting for us. Team Liquid, on the flip side, will take on M3 Champions in the second quarterfinal series of the day.
