Riot Games announced that The League Championship Korea will kick off on June 15, with all teams completing their starting roster. The defending champion, T1, kept their five players ahead of the summer, while Damwon KIA announced the return of Nuguri to the organization after his short mental break.
GEN, on the other hand, will compete in the LCK 2022 Summer with the same roster built around Chovy and Ruler. Fans can expect the upcoming season will see fierce competition between top-tier teams on their way to the championship. Here are all the details you need to know about the LCK 2022 Summer before the start of the regular season.
Teams
Ten teams will compete in the 2022 LCK Summer to secure their spot in the playoff stage. Matches will be bo3 in the regular season, and top six teams will qualify for the second stage. Korean teams do not intend to make big moves on their starting roster between two splits because they want to maintain harmony and order in the team. The most noticeable change in the off-season was undoubtedly the return of Nuguri. He took a short break after FunPlus Phoenix had their worst international performance in the organization’s history at the 2021 World Championship. Nuguri will have a chance to make up for their mistakes with his former team.
Schedule
Riot Games revealed the full schedule for the 2022 LCK Summer. Kwangdong Freecs and Hanwha Life Esports will meet in the opening match of the regular season as T1 will make their LCK debut against Nongshim RedForce on Friday, June 17. GEN will take on KT Rolster on the second day as Damwon KIA will start the league against Fredit BRION.
