LEC 2022 Summer: Excel, Rogue, and Fnatic tie in first place

| | ,

After completing the spring playoffs with an undefeated run to hoist the LEC trophy and secure their spot at the Mid-Season Invitational, G2 Esports looked this messy for the first time since last season, falling to MAD and Fnatic in the third week of the regular season. Fnatic secured a crucial win against G2 Esports, finishing up the week in first place with the same 5W 2L record with Excel and Rogue. One bad news is that fans will have to wait a bit to see the LEC return to the stage as the league took a one-week break before week 4 begins.

Here are the full results for day 2 of week 3 in the 2022 LEC Summer:

  • Team BDS 0 – 1 Excel
  • SK Gaming 0 – 1 Rogue
  • Team Vitality 1 – 0 Astralis
  • MAD Lions 0 – 1 Misfits Gaming
  • Fnatic 1 – 0 G2 Esports

G2 Esports were controversial due to their poor performance they showed off throughout the last weeks. This heavy loss against Fnatic will probably put them at the center of criticism about the team’s lack of discipline. G2 Esports may lose Fnatic on any match but the fact that they act like there is nothing wrong is distressing.

G2 vs Fnatic

Fnatic surprised their opponents with an increasingly popular champion Zilean on the bottom side as a partner of Twitch. Watching Zilean on Hyli’s hands was also a pleasure, leading his team on map rotations and using his area control ability at the highest efficiency level. G2 Esports, on the other hand, has to take the match to the late phase to scale their composition including Gangplank and Zeri. Fnatic were well aware of this strategy, speeding up the game to not to reach risky stages. It was an easier victory for FNC than expected, put them on the same record with Excel and Rogue.

Speaking of Excel and Rogue, both teams made quick work on SK Gaming and Team BDS, respectively. Even if Rogue kicked off the season with a tough, intense schedule, they bounced back to the action, capturing their place on top of the standings. Excel, on the flip side, have been making excellent work since the start of the summer season. Making it playoff for the second time in the organization’s history would be a remarkable success for them. However, Excel should aim for better to be permanent on that level.

Team Vitality captured their first perfect week of the season, having been defeated by Excel and G2 Esports in the previous week. The LEC’s super team still does not give the confidence to be champion. However, they looked better than they were in the spring as of the first three weeks. Fans will find out whether these five will be a contender for the title or not. Team Vitality need to improve their performance against top-tier teams, not against broken teams.

LEC will be back on July 15th

Week 4 of the 2022 LEC Summer will return on July 15 after one-week hiatus. Teams can use this short break to fix their weaknesses seen until now, developing new strategies to astonish their opponents and make the league more fun to watch. You can watch all the matches mentioned above on the LEC’s YouTube channel if you missed out.
