MSI 2022 is fast approaching, and eleven champions have divided into three groups to define who will advance to the rumbling stage. Ten days left until the start of this year’s Mid-Season Invitational, so let’s talk about participating teams to understand what we should expect from the tournament. We are starting the series with the Japanese representative, LJL 2022 Spring Champion, DetonatioN FocusMe.
If you are not interested in the Japanese League of Legends, you have no business following what is going on in the LJL. However, there is a fierce competition between eight teams to make their way to the international stage, where they can prove that the LJL teams are not a cakewalk.
DetonatioN FocusMe is best known for their multiple appearances at Worlds and MSI. We watched them last at Worlds 2021, where they advanced to the main group stage after shocking everyone in qualifiers. Worlds 2021 was the first World Championship in DFM’s organization history to have managed to qualify for the main group stage. This honor was enough for them.
LJL 2022 Spring saw DFM, Sengoku Gaming, and Rascal Jester battling it out against each other to take the lead. DetonatioN FocusMe finished the regular season with a phenomenal 19-2 record in first place. Their playoff run started with an astonishing 3-0 victory over Sengoku Gaming, and this win also led them to the grand finals. Sengoku Gaming found one more chance to get their revenge on DFM by taking down Rascal Jester in the lower bracket finals. This time Sengoku took DFM to the fifth match, in which the winner of the title will be determined.

DetonatioN FocusMe defeated Sengoku Gaming twice to represent Japan at the MSI 2022. Their starting line-up includes Evi, Yutapon, and Marimo alongside the two Korean imports, Harp and Yaharong. The most notable change in DFM’s roster was Aria’s departure to KT Rolster. It was known that he would be transferred to an elite team thanks to his outstanding performance throughout the MSI 2022.
DFM replaced Aria with another Korean player, Lee “Yaharong” Chan, and did not lose much from last year. They will be playing against Saigon Buffalo, Team Aze, and T1 in group A. DFM can be expected to finish their group in top two places and make their way to the rumbling stage. To ensure this, they will have to win against Aze and Buffalo.
