GEN defeated the reigning champion, DWG, in a five-match intense series, and they will battle it out against T1 in the 2022 LCK Spring Finals. GEN got their revenge on the LCK juggernaut, DWG, who finished the regular season in third place, after being slapped by them in the 2021 Spring Finals.
The second semi-final series of the 2022 LCK Spring Playoffs lived up to the expectations with its five thrilling matches that kept fans on the screen all day long. GEN came up to the series as the favorite, but Damwon KIA were ready to squeeze their opponent by setting up high damage compositions that they did not prefer throughout the season.
GEN vs DWG
Ahri, Ezreal, and Xayah receive a lot more attention from players throughout the series than expected. Tank champions who have engage abilities also were picked many times to initiate team fights. Both teams chased skirmishes more often than we used to see in Korean, long and cautious games. Besides that, GEN had a better macro strategy that brought them a grand final ticket at the end of this tedious day. Although Damwon KIA took the lead twice in the series, GEN bounced back with extra scores from their superstars, Chovy and Ruler, and objectives that strengthened their late-game compositions.
Silver Scrapes played for the second time in the 2022 LCK Spring Playoffs, and the do-or-die game started with Damwon taking control of the early-mid stage thanks to an outstanding Nidalee performance by Canyon. Towards the late game, GEN captured opposing players near the river and dragon pit as the global gold difference between the two teams melted away. GEN closed out the series at 34. minute and burned the defending champions’ hopes of reaching the trophy for the fourth consecutive season.
GEN will face off T1 in the 2022 LCK Spring Finals on 2 April. No team has beaten T1 so far. Also, T1 won both matches they played against GEN in the regular season. Keep in mind that GEN lacked their superstars because of COVID in these two matches. We will see how the two teams will fight with their full roster.
