Once upon a time, skateboarding was every child’s dream before computers and smartphones took over the world. We all remember Tony Hawk games and the first steps into digital realms for sports. Skateboarding games became a genre within the gaming community and it is the most marketable extreme sport in the world.
Gaming changed the world and now even skateboarding can be done from the comforts of your couch. Skateboarding is about passion no matter where you do it – across your TV or going to the park with your friends. Today we are going to take a look at skateboarding games for the skateboarders at heart.
Tony Hawk’s Pro Skater 1 + 2
Skateboarding became famous with the Tony Hawk series without a doubt. He might be 52 today but this guy changed the world. His last game is no different. Tony Hawk’s Pro Skater 1 + 2 got amazing feedback from critics and the game is available on PS4, Xbox, and PC. The game might be a remaster of the first Tony Hawk titles but it is extremely good. Players need to complete special objectives in order to advance in the game.
Tony Hawk’s Pro Skater 1 + 2 sold more than 1 million copies in 2 weeks, shattering several records on the way. Try it! We promise that you will not regret buying this game if you enjoy skateboarding games and since it’s available on PS4, get your PlayStation Gift Cards now and start skating!
Maybe you are looking for more realistic gameplay, then we can offer you Skater XL. The game is not for everyone, it is definitely for real skateboarding fans. The game is considerably harder than Tony Hawk’s Pro Skater 1 + 2 but once you get the hang of it, it becomes extremely fun.
Skater XL is available on Nintendo Switch, PlayStation 4, Xbox One, and Microsoft Windows. Unfortunately, the game does not offer keyboard support. Skater XL is offering real locations and players are able to choose their skates from 30 different brands. This game is a skating simulation and not an arcade version.
If you are looking for a 2D skateboarding game you have to try OlliOlli. The game came out in 2014 but it became a classic and earned an award at the BAFTA Games Award for Sports. The game is available virtually anywhere: Microsoft Windows, OS X, Linux, PlayStation 3, PlayStation 4, PlayStation Vita, Xbox One, Wii U, Nintendo 3DS, Android, and Nintendo Switch.
As you can see time has passed but OlliOlli is still going strong even these days. The game is arcadey for sure but if you are a true skateboarding fan, this game will appeal to you. The controls are fairly easy but the obstacles are not. It is the right mixture of fun and hard gameplay. You will be playing this for hours!
Mike V: Skateboard Party
Well, not everyone plays games on computers and consoles. But if you are playing on your phone, Mike V: Skateboard Party is the one for you. The game is a combination of several themes, from free skateboarding to trying new tricks.
Players can customize their skaters and learn new tricks. Career mode is particularly fun and has more than 30 achievements for players to unlock. If you are on mobile, this game is extremely close to a real skateboarding experience, therefore we recommend you give it a try. The game is available on both Android and iOS.
Session is still in early access on Steam. However, the game is a pure skateboarding experience. It is available on Xbox and Windows. Session’s camera even has an interesting mode where you play from the perspective of a fisheye lens.
Many players have compared it to the Skate series, which is seen as a predecessor of Session. Mind you, the controls of the game can be a bit hard. The locations in the game are created with a 1:1 ratio and this gives it a distinct feel of realism. Session is definitely for players who want a pure skateboarding experience.
When we think about simulation games we need to consider VR games as well. Especially for skateboarding, VR offers something truly amazing. Currently there are not a lot of games that we can suggest but the upcoming VR Skater game does look very promising.
If you prefer a VR game this might be the one for you. The game does look very immersive and it does speak to those skateboarding vibes with their curated music playlist. The game is expected to be released at the end of 2020 for the Oculus Rift, Valve Index, Windows Mixed Reality and HTC Vive.
It might be 10 years old but Skate 3 is a timeless classic for the real skateboarding fans out there. The game is definitely one of EA’s gems. The fictional city was amazing! From NPCs to random locations, everywhere is available for you to skate. The park editor was exceptionally revolutionary for players.
EA stated that they designed the city from scratch for this game. It is currently available on the PS3 and Xbox 360. Skate 3 still has an active community and we have good news for the fans of the series, Skate 4 is coming soon as well!
Stickman Skate Battle
Another mobile game on our list. Just as the name suggests you will be controlling a stickman in this game. It is available on both Android and iOS. If you want to 1v1 your friends and show your skills then this game is for you.
If you beat them you will get their coins and participate in bigger events. The game is the ultimate PvP fun for all, from leagues to daily events. Interestingly, Stickman Skate Battle also offers support for Android TV and Nvidia Shield. PvP in skateboarding games is really rare and Stickman Skate Battle is currently offering it for free!
Maybe they seem less popular these days but skateboarding games definitely have a dedicated community. The games did change significantly over the last decade but now we have VR in our lives and it will definitely offer more ways for us to play our favorite games.
Skateboarding games combined with open-world elements are certainly intriguing. Many players are looking for that immersive experience and some games are offering this. We can see that there is a rise in popularity as well, classic series like Skate are returning and maybe we will have the second golden age of skateboarding games coming to us soon.
