The Upcoming 3D Animated Film ‘Lupin III: The First’ Reveals Opening Sequence

Toho Company and Marza Animation have revealed the opening sequence for the upcoming 3D film ‘Lupin III: The First’. This will be the first film since the series inception to be a full-fledge CGI feature film and it looks incredibly promising. The story will be written and directed by Takashi Yamazaki (Stand By Me Doraemon and Dragon Quest: Your Story).

Long-term fans of the franchise may notice that the new opening sequence shares similarities with a prior Lupin III opening. With the iconic spotlights chasing down Arsene Lupin III. In addition, we see a few recurring characters making a return in the opening sequence. Including Daisuke Jigen, Fujiko Mine, Goemon Ishikawa XIII, Inspector Zenigata and most important of all, the Fiat 500 – the classic car.

The story will follow Lupin as he makes an alliance with a woman named Laetitia in order to steal the Bresson Dairy. Something that the first Arsene Lupin was unable to steal.

We also got a Lupin III: The First trailer last month.

In light of this, the voice cast for the upcoming film are as follows:

Arsene Lupin III – Kan’ichi Kurita
Daisuke Jigen – Kiyoshi Kobayashi
Fujiko Mine – Miyuki Sawashiro
Goemon Ishikawa XIII – Daisuke Namikawa
Inspector Zenigata – Koichi Yamadera
Laetitia – Suzu Hirose
Gerald – Tatsuya Jujiwara
Lambert – Kotaro Yoshida

Monkey Punch, the creator of the Lupin III franchise, unfortunately, passed away earlier this year. Since its creation back in 1967, Lupin III has enjoyed big success in its serialization.

Coincidentally, next month will mark the 40th anniversary of ‘The Castle of Cagliostro’. Whereas the most recent film ‘Lupin the III: Fujikos Lie’ came out in May of 2019.

The brand new 3D animated film ‘Lupin III: The First’ will hit theatres in Japan on December 6th.
