Roosh Ventures, Sergey Tokarev’s Venture Fund, Entered the Sifted Top 50 Ranking

Sergey Tokarev’s venture fund Roosh Ventures became the first and only representative from Ukraine in the Sifted ranking

Ukrainian investment fund Roosh Ventures took 43rd place in the top 50 lenders and investors in France, Belgium, the Netherlands and Luxembourg according to the European media outlet Sifted. Moreover, three portfolio companies — Gladia, Folk and Alma — entered the top 100 fastest-growing startups in the region. Currently, the fund is the only one in Ukraine that has managed to enter this ranking. This was discussed by Sergey Tokarev, investor and co-founder of Roosh Ventures.

What Is Known About the Appearance of a Ukrainian Venture Fund in the List of Europe’s Best Investors

Sifted operates with the support of the Financial Times and is considered one of the best industry resources on the continent, specialising in analytics of the venture capital and startup markets. To form the ranking, the European media outlet considers a set of criteria:

  • intensity of completed deals;

  • impact on the development of the local ecosystem;

  • portfolio quality.

The entry of a Ukrainian player into the ranking of the best investors in Western Europe proved that the place of registration is no longer a determining factor for the scale and competitiveness of venture capital. Most of the places in such lists are occupied by local European funds, thus the appearance of Roosh Ventures among them makes the Ukrainian investment fund very distinctive against the general background.

The companies that were also recognised by Sifted in the top 100 specialise in different technology sectors:

  • Gladia develops AI infrastructure for speech analysis and transcription, which has already been integrated into many products in different countries.

  • Folk develops a CRM system that returns control over business relationships to people, not algorithms.

  • Alma operates in the financial sector and develops an innovative platform with a focus on the model of responsible consumption.

“I believe that this success is directly connected with Roosh Ventures’ approach to selecting projects. The venture fund does not invest in markets, but in the people who influence these markets. If a Ukrainian investment fund has managed to enter the top 50, it means that we have already reached the top league. Now we are not catching up, but competing,” says Sergey Tokarev.

This result is already becoming part of a trend in which Ukrainian technology and investment teams are increasingly competing with Western players.
