Third-Person Shooter

Splatoon 2 – Arena Coverage

Platoon Gameplay on Switch

Splatoon 2 is one of the very few shooter titles that has actually been developed by Nintendo. Splatoon 3 is also rumored to be released later this year. You can decide for yourself whether you’d like to wait for the new game or try out the 2nd iteration first.

The multiplayer in this game is phenomenal, as you race against the other team to cover the arena in ink. The goal of this game is to cover more of the play area with your colored ink than the enemy team. There is a campaign mode as well, and multiplayer has a ton of customization and progression to work through.

  • Single-player campaign provides a skill challenge that showcases Splatoon’s unique mechanics
  • Looks gorgeous both on Switch and TV screen

  • Interesting new mechanics from single player don’t really show up in multiplayer

Love it or hate it, Fortnite is still kicking and still very popular. Luckily, Fortnite is still a free game, unless you count microtransactions. The purchases you can make allow you to use different skins in the game to customize the way your character looks. The now-classic Battle Royale is a great way to dip your feet into the genre. With crossplay enabled, you can play with your friends from Xbox, Playstation, or even mobile.

Single Player Shooter – Short Playthrough

Superhot Gameplay on Switch

Superhot is a fantastic first person shooter. The single player is captivating and challenging, but certainly beatable. This game is arguably even better in VR on the Oculus. This game brings a great twist unlike anything you’ve seen before.

When you move in Superhot, times moves. If you do not move, time is stopped. This mechanic becomes vital to master as you play through the game. You will learn to plan ahead, stop moving and think of your next vital move before you continue. Will you pick up a bottle or ninja star and toss it are your enemy? Will you shoot them, or will you pistol whip? The choice is yours.

  • Excellent gameplay twist
  • Ingenious strategic slow-mo gunplay
  • Deviously dark narrative
  • Challenging puzzles

  • Too many levels rely on route behavior
  • Can feel pre-scripted or trial and error
  • Cheesy story
