The most renowned award ceremony in the film industry is back for another run. Last night’s edition of the Oscars recognized the work of more than 50 films, across 23 categories.
With a smaller ceremony due to the COVID-19 pandemic, this year’s edition contained more diversity in its nominee slate, which was the main point of criticism on previous ceremonies. Making history, Chloé Zhao won the best director award for her film “Nomadland”, which also triumphed in the best picture category, becoming the first woman of color to win the coveted award in this category. Also, in the makeup and hairstyling category, “Ma Rainey’s Black Bottom” artists Mia Neal and Jamika Wilson became the first Black women to win the award.
