A teaser trailer has been posted for Call of Duty: Black Ops Cold War, the next installment in the long-running franchise.
This comes as no surprise, as various leaks and listings have mentioned the upcoming game. Everything from a bag of Doritos mentioning double XP for the game, to early gameplay being posted online, have made this not much of a surprise.
Recent ARG campaign Pawn Takes Pawn has been hinting at the game and its reveal. With the site displaying Cold War area TV footage and sending players hunting for clues about the upcoming game inside battle royale Call of Duty: Warzone.
The teaser that has been posted also features video footage from the Cold War period, and talks of western intelligence infiltration inspired by real events. Footage from the Vietnam War is also shown, which matches up with a leaked list of locations for campaign missions in the forthcoming game.
A worldwide reveal is stated to happen on August 26. Where we should get our first proper look at the new game.
It’s still unclear if Call of Duty: Black Ops Cold War will be a reboot of the Black Ops sub-series similar to last year’s Modern Warfare reboot. Or if this game will be directly tied to previous titles.
Whatever the case I’m intrigued to see more, as someone who holds the original Black Ops dear. And after Modern Warfare was a return to form for COD, I hope this next game can carry that form on.
It’s also likely this new entry will be the first COD to appear on next-gen consoles.
