Halloween for Hallo-weenies

The Peak of Spooktober

Yikes! It’s that time of year again where the internet is saturated with ghosts, ghouls, and ghastly jumpscares. Unpopular opinion: I hate it all. Folks, I’m going to shoot straight with you. My own shadow scares me. Scooby-doo is way braver than me. It’s awful when Halloween rolls around and I have to avoid the internet like the plague. I have to actually socialize with real people and that’s just as scary. What’s a Hallo-weenie like myself to do? While everyone else relies on heart attacks to get their jollies this holiday, here’s how to celebrate the spirit in a calmer way.

Halloween In-Game Events

Lots of online games are having Halloween events this time of year. For those who like to have their characters look like an edgy teenager’s OC, like me, there’s no better time to stock up on exclusive outfits and gear. Most MMOs continuously switch up events to keep their player base active once they’ve burned through all the content. The events are short-lived, which gives you a nice excuse to be a shut-in this year.

Halloween Movies

No, not those kinds. We’re trying to avoid scary! I’m talking about those beautiful kids movies. What about Scary Godmother: Halloween Spooktacular or my personal favorite, The Nightmare Before Christmas? Those are phenomenal movies that somehow manage to channel the holiday spirit, pun intended, while being more lighthearted than horrifying. Just remember to watch them in the dark, so you can tell your friends that you stayed up late watching Halloween movies. That sounds better than belting out musical numbers in your pajamas at midnight. Not speaking from experience.

Get Treated, Not Tricked

There’s always the option of Halloween parties where everyone dresses up, but us gamers are a solitary bunch. We do online multiplayer instead of irl. Every chance to go outside is another chance to get tricked, backstabbed, and quite possibly, bamboozled. Be safe. Keep that heart rate level and enjoy the holiday without fear! I know that I fully intend to.
