Netflix has issued a press release sharing the official social handles for its new The Witcher series, along with ‘first looks’ at its three lead characters: Geralt (played by Henry Cavill), Yennefer (played by Anya Chalotra), and Ciri (Freya Allan), alongside a very first look at the series logo and teaser poster in a series of wintery teaser photographs.
The release provides a limited summary of the series, claiming it to be:
“Based on the best-selling fantasy series of books, The Witcher is an epic tale of fate and family. Geralt of Rivia, a solitary monster hunter, struggles to find his place in a world where people often prove more wicked than beasts. But when destiny hurtles him toward a powerful sorceress, and a young princess with a dangerous secret, the three must learn to navigate the increasingly volatile Continent together.”
The release also teases the possibility of more information regarding the show to be revealed at a panel including castmembers Cavill, Chalotra, and Allan which will be taking place at San Diego Comic-Con on 19 July 2019.

Netflix’s The Witcher currently doesn’t have a proper release date but the series is expected to launch sometime later this year. We learned late last year who Geralt and the others would be played by and the first reactions were pretty lukewarm. Based on these first teasers, it’s safe to say die-hard fans were probably right to temper their expectations. The main characters don’t really look the part but we’ll just have to wait and see.
In addition to The Witcher, Netflix is currently also working on a couple of other series gamers should be familiar with. Among others, these include Dragon’s Dogma, the highly acclaimed RPG released by Capcom a few years back.
