Death Stranding, the mysterious new game from the acclaimed Hideo Kojima has just gotten a new trailer and release date seemingly out of nowhere. Not only is this trailer a surprise but it’s also 9 minutes long.
The trailer features the first showing of major gameplay and it looks like what you’d expect from a Kojima game. The metal gear DNA is easily visible in the game’s shooting mechanics and stealth gameplay. The trailer also gave us a sneak peek at an awesome motorbike which seems to be a big part of the game (what’s with 2019 and motorcycles in games).
Similar to what we’ve seen before, the trailer does include a lot of exploration. Climbing, walking, getting dragged underground by goo monsters. The game seemingly has it all in the exploration sector. Oh, and you did read that right. Weird goo monsters.
Despite being a whopping 9 minutes long I still have no clue what this game is about. The trailer features small snippets of its absolutely mental story, which leaves just enough to keep you intrigued and confused. Very confused. From what I gathered you play as Sam (Norman Reedus), a courier who’s delivering a baby across a ruined America? Trying to explain it will do it no justice. Just go and watch this thing. Trust me.
The game didn’t shy away from showing off its magnificent cast full of star actors such as Norman Reedus, Mads Mikkelsen, Guillermo del Toro, and everyone’s favourite voice actor Troy Baker.
The trailer dropped with a message from Hideo Kojima himself on the PlayStation Blog.
“People have created ‘Walls’ and become accustomed to living in isolation.
“Death Stranding is a completely new type of action game, where the goal of the player is to reconnect isolated cities and a fragmented society. It is created so that all elements, including the story and gameplay, are bound together by the theme of the ‘Strand’ or connection.
“As Sam Porter Bridges, you will attempt to bridge the divides in society, and in doing create new bonds or ‘Strands’ with other players around the globe. Through your experience playing the game, I hope you’ll come to understand the true importance of forging connections with others.
“Now, please enjoy the latest Death Stranding trailer.”
Death Stranding is easily set to be this year’s biggest launch with its shockingly close release date of November 8th, 2019.
