Will there be a Season 2 of ‘Vikings:Valhalla’?

| | ,

The original Vikings series aired back in 2013 on the History Channel. It was beloved by fans for it’s gripping story of two worlds clashing, charismatic and skilled cast, and immersive designs. It ran for 5 seasons on the History Channel and later went to Amazon Prime Studios for it’s final season.

The newest show in the Vikings universe, Vikings:Valhalla, released very recently on February 25, 2022.

No longer a History Channel show- or Amazon Prime StudiosVikings:Valhalla is a Netflix Original inspired by the original series.

For more information about the acquisition of Vikings:Valhalla and it’s significance within the industry feel free to check out this article from The Hollywood Reporter here.

Is it worth watching?

That’s quite a loaded question. I have watched the first season as it aired. I will not talk about my opinions of Vikings:Valhalla in this article because I’m covering it as the first of a brand new series(?).

Will there be a Season 2 of Vikings:Valhalla?

In short, yes!

Netflix ordered a total of 24 episodes when signing onto Vikings:Valhalla. Season 1 only has 8 episodes so it’s safe to assume that we’ll be getting at least two more seasons of Vikings:Valhalla.

In fact, we’re definitely getting Seasons 2 and 3. Read on to know more.

What do we know about Season 2 of ‘Vikings:Valhalla’

There are a few key things to note about VikingsValhalla.

Netflix ordered 24 episodes, and Season 1 only has 8.

It was a guarantee that Netflix was intending to release more seasons, but kept quiet for whatever reasons. Maybe to gauge how the show did with audiences? Maybe just to get a hype train going? Who knows, I’m just guessing.

On March 9, 2022 Netflix announced that there will most definitely be a Season 2 of Vikings:Valhalla AND that production’s already wrapped.

What does that mean exactly? That means that they’re done filming it and are most likely just working on editing and all the things in post-production.

Netflix also announced that the filming for Season 3 is slated to begin this Spring.

When should we expect seasons 2 and 3 of ‘Vikings:Valhalla’

Season 2 is expected to be released sometime in 2023.

I would imagine it would release around the same time as Season 1.
We should expect Season 2 in late February or early March of 2023.

I find it odd to be thinking of a Season 3 release before Season 2 has even aired. However, if there will be a release pattern(which there usually is with shows), we could probably expect Season 3 to release in late February or early March of 2024.

This is up in the air and I will be writing separate articles on this as news comes out in the future.
