Developer Rebellion officially announced Sniper Elite 5, the latest entry in the ongoing series dating back to 2005.
As with the previous entry, Sniper Elite 5 keeps players in World War II. Instead of Italy in 1943, however, the newer title goes to France in 1944.
“As part of a covert US Rangers operation to weaken the Atlantikwall fortifications along the coast of Brittany,” explained Rebellion, “Karl makes contact with the French Resistance.”
“Soon, they uncover a secret Nazi project that threatens to end the war before the Allies can even invade Europe: Operation Kraken. It’s Karl’s mission to take out the high ranking Nazi officers and end Operation Kraken once and for all.”
The game will feature the “largest and most immersive” maps to date. The developer used photogrammetry to capture the different locations.
Each map will include multiple entry and exit points. The game itself will feature improved gunplay physics and movement.
Fans of co-op play will appreciate the new features, such as the ability to share items, heal each other, and give each other orders. There is also a new wave-based Survival mode for up to four players.
Sniper Elite 5 will release in 2022 on PlayStation and Xbox consoles, along with PC.
