Cyberpunk 2077 is all the rage right now and we expect its popularity to increase even further as we approach its release date. Fans eager to see more of the game will get their wish fulfilled next month at Gamescom 2019. CD Projekt Red just announced their plans for the upcoming event, which will include a live play session along with a cosplay contest.
As confirmed shortly after their E3 2019 presentation, the developers are planning to showcase a gameplay demo during Gamescom. The gameplay demo set to be revealed next month was already shown behind closed doors at E3. However, this will be the first time when the general public will also have a chance to feast their eyes on it.
CD Projekt Red announced that Cyberpunk 2077 will be played live at the booth located in Hall 6, Stand C049. The presentations will be available to watch every day between Wednesday, August 21st and Saturday, August 24th. CDPR also mentioned special showings that will be held behind closed doors between August 20th and August 22nd. Given the secrecy of these showings, it’s possible CDPR may reveal new gameplay footage to select press outlets. However, this is just speculation at this point.
Cyberpunk 2077 Cosplay Contest
In addition to the live showings, CDPR also announced the first Cyberpunk 2077-themed cosplay contest. The first phase of the qualifiers is schedule will kick off at Gamescom 2019 on August 23rd. The contest will feature a prize of $2000 along with a bunch of swag for the winner. The best cosplayer will also secure a spot to the contest’s Grand Finale, which will take place in 2020.
CD Projekt Red is planning to host similar qualifiers throughout the year at PAX West, the Tokyo Game Show, Igromir gaming exhibition, and Paris Games Week. The Grand Finale will feature five contestants – one from each show – that qualified from live events along with five more from the online qualifiers. Participants can look forward to a $30.000 prize pool at the Grande Finale. If you want to sign up make sure to check out the official website for more information regarding the competition.
No Pre-Order Bonuses or Microtransactions
In other Cyberpunk 2077-related news, CDPR recently confirmed that the game will not feature any sort of pre-order bonuses. These types of bonuses have been a staple for AAA games in recent years but Cyberpunk 2077 isn’t your regular AAA game. And CD Projekt Red are definitely not your regular AAA developers. When asked about the possibility of pre-order bonuses, a CDPR representative had this to say:
“No, we don’t do that. Every person that buys the game gets exactly the same in-game content, no matter if they buy it in preorders, on release date or 2 years later.”
CDPR announced last year that the upcoming game will not feature microtransactions either. Meanwhile, free small DLC packs along with paid large expansion packs seem ‘very likely’. In other words, the developers are going for the same business model we’ve seen with The Witcher 3.
Cyberpunk 2077 is set to launch on April 16th, 2020 for PC, PS4, and Xbox One.
