New Godzilla: King of Monsters Trailer Properly Introduces the Titanic Kaijus

Warner Bros. dropped a new 60-second TV spot for Godzilla:
King of the Monsters dubbed “Beautiful”. Despite showcasing giant Kaiju
battling each other and causing untold devastation to our planet, the new
trailer is indeed beautiful. Warner Bros. decided to use a cheerfully epic
version of “Over the Rainbow” as the soundtrack and it fits surprisingly well. The
spot uses many of the same scenes we saw in the first two trailers but there are
also a couple of new ones that give us a better look at some of the god-like
creatures. Check out the new trailer for Godzilla: King of Monsters down below.

Meet the Monsters

What immediately stands out in this trailer is the fact that we’re finally getting properly introduced to the monsters. Well, some of them. Naturally, Godzilla himself is the main star of the show but you probably didn’t know much about the other Kaijus unless you were already familiar with the lore. The TV spot starts off by revealing the names of three of the titanic antagonists appearing in Godzilla: King of Monsters. Namely, Rodan, Ghidorah, and Mothra. Not a huge revelation for long-time Godzilla fans but it’s still nice to hear the names of these iconic creatures spoken out loud in the trailer.

In addition to Godzilla, Rodan, King Ghidorah, and Mothra, the upcoming movie will also feature a couple of other Kaijus. Unlike the ones we just mentioned, these other monsters only have brief appearances in the trailers and are a bit harder to identify. A lot of fans speculate that two of the mystery creatures we’ve seen are likely to be Kumonga and Anguirus. In addition, word on the street is that Godzilla: King of Monsters will also feature a number of other smaller monsters in order to fully flesh out the MonsterVerse. Warner Bros. haven’t actually confirmed these rumors so take them with a grain of salt for now.

A Few Details About the Confirmed Kaijus (Besides Godzilla Himself)

King Ghidorah

The main titanic antagonist in Godzilla: King of Monsters will probably be King Ghidorah. The three-headed dragon is often seen as Godzilla’s arch-nemesis and has appeared in countless movies throughout the years. Ghidorah fought against not just Godzilla but also Rodan, Mothra and other Kaijus on more than one occasion in order to establish himself as the true King of Monsters.

Rodan

Rodan is another iconic enemy of Godzilla that also somewhat resembles a dragon but is a lot weaker than King Ghidorah. This monster is not to be underestimated, however, as he lives inside volcanoes and brings fire and lava with him whenever he emerges from his slumber. Although Rodan is often seen as an antagonist, the new King of Monsters trailer depicts him battling Ghidorah so maybe he will be an uneasy ally of Godzilla in the upcoming movie.

Mothra

Mothra is one of the few Kaijus that are always depicted as being one of the good guys. Or girls in this case. The moth goddess is a long-time ally of Godzilla and has appeared in almost as many movies as the King of Monsters himself. Similar to Rodan, Mothra is also seen fighting against King Ghidorah in the new trailer. Unlike the fire dragon, however, she also seems to be quite fond of humans.

Godzilla, Rodan, and Mothra have joined forces in the past on several occasions against King Ghidorah and it looks like we can expect that to happen in this movie as well. As for the unknown Kaijus, we don’t know yet if they will fight against or alongside the King of Monsters but we’ll get to find out very soon.

Godzilla: King of Monsters is set to release on May 31st. The movie will star Millie Bobby Brown, Vera Farmiga, Charles Dance, Bradley Whitford, Thomas Middletich, and Ken Watanabe, to name just a few of the main actors.
