Apple is apparently working on a new MacBook Pro with a screen size of 16 to 16.5 inches. The info comes from well-known Apple analyst Ming-Chi Kuo who claims that the Cupertino-based tech company is also preparing a smaller notebook along with a new professional display. All these products are reportedly scheduled to launch sometime during 2019, though the analyst did not provide a specific release date.
The Largest MacBook Pro Since 2012
Little is known about the larger MacBook Pro at this time, however, Kuo did mention that we can expect it to feature an “all-new design.” This bit is quite interesting as the current design was actually expected to last a couple more years at the very least. At 16-16.5 inches, this new MacBook Pro would be the largest one in many years. The last time Apple launched a notebook with a comparable screen size was back in 2009. That particular MacBook Pro came equipped with a 17-inch screen and although it was fairly successful, Apple decided to discontinue it just a few years later in 2012.
As far as the smaller MacBook Pro is concerned, Kuo says it will feature a 13-inch screen and up to 32GB of RAM. The slightly larger 15-inch notebook can already support 32GB of RAM but there isn’t a similar option for smaller models at the moment. Similar to the 16-inch notebook, there’s not much else to go on here so we’ll just have to wait until Apple makes an official announcement to learn more about the rest of the specs.
2019 Will be a Busy Year for Apple
MacBook Pro aside, the analyst also revealed that Apple plans to return to the pro display market this year. The company is reportedly preparing a new 31.6-inch monitor with 6K resolution and Mini LED-like backlight. Apple discontinued its last pro display back in 2016 but the company started working on a brand new model the following year. We’re not sure if this is the same display mentioned by Apple’s Phil Shiller in 2017 but it seems pretty likely.
Meanwhile, Kuo had a few more juicy pieces of info regarding a few other Apple products that we can expect in 2019. According to him, a new AirPods model along with a wireless charging mat will start shipping in the next few months. The analyst also mentioned a new and faster iPod Touch and two new iPad Pro models, which are also expected to hit the shelves sometime this year. Finally, Kuo says that this year’s iPhone lineup will include three different models, all of which will come equipped with bigger batteries, frosted glass casing, and the ability to wirelessly charge other nearby devices.
