Old School RuneScape Gets Its First New Game Mode in Five Years

If you were looking for a reason to go back to Old School Runescape, or maybe try it for the first time, now you have it. Starting today, the MMORPG is bound to become a lot more exciting thanks to the introduction of a new game mode – Group Ironman. Developer Jagex proudly announced that more than 140,000 players requested the new game mode. Thus, making it the most requested feature in the game’s long history.

Just as its name suggests, Group Ironman is a spin on the regular Ironman Mode. Just in case you’re not familiar with it, Ironman is a hardcore mode where you have to deal with a lot of restrictions and limitations. The same concept applies to Group Ironman but here you get to tackle the many challenges of OSRS with a group of buddies. The co-op mode sees teams of anywhere between two and five players compete against others for fame and glory. Not to mention a top spot on the leaderboards.

One of the main things that set Group Ironman apart from the standard version is the ability to trade resources with other players. Moreover, players also share storage space and can visit each other’s houses. Of course, all these social interactions are only possible between team members. This is still Ironman after all.

“It’s a real challenge, pushing players to their limits while allowing them to share in the glory with their comrades,” said Kieren Charles, Old School RuneScape lead content developer. “We’re confident that both our community and new players alike will find their time in Group Ironman an exhilarating one.”

When and where

To celebrate the launch of Group Ironman, four teams comprised of some of the most popular OSRS content creators will duke it out live on Twitch later today. The teams participating in the showcase include One True King, MoistCr1TiKaL, Lumbridge Moguls, and CDawgVA. The event kicks off at 7 PM BST/11 AM PDT.

  1. This is the best game ever. The grind is a part of the experience. It would be great to see some quality of life updates to the Steam client like RL has. Even if it’s something like tile markers or drop items it would go a long way.
